We have previously seen Optimus G and Galaxy S3 benchmarks in action and it seemed like LG is quite satisfied with its choice of hardware that it has implemented over Galaxy S3. However, when it comes to selecting between the smartphones, specs doesn’t reveal everything.
For that purpose, a dedicated Android site Android-Authority has conducted several tests to determine who stands out at the end. First of all, lets take a look at the specs.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is equipped with the Samsung Exynos 4412 processor, which consists of a 1.4 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU and ARM Mali-400 MP4 GPU.
The LG Optimus G, on the other hand, has a Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset that packs a 1.5 GHz quad-core Krait CPU and Adreno 320 GPU
Processor Performance :-
Snapdragon S4 Pro | Samsung Exynos 4412
Quadrant | 6242 | 5461 |
AnTuTu Benchmark | 11248 | 10239 |
CF-Bench | 14320 | 13224 |
The above processor intensive tests shows that Qualcomm does an incredible job competing with Samsung’s Exynos offering.
CPU Benchmarks :-
Snapdragon S4 Pro | Samsung Exynos 4412
Geekbench 2 | 1681 | 1489 |
Linpack for Android Single Thread | 194.059 MFLOPS | 54.937 MFLOPS |
Linpack for Android Multi-thread | 460.838 MFLOPS | 121.256 MFLOPS |
Vellamo Mobile Benchmark Metal | 543 | 557 |
Optimus G’s CPU nailed all the tests by a huge margin, leaving Samsung’s Galaxy S3′s Exynos processor to shame!.
Graphics Performance :-
Snapdragon S4 Pro | Samsung Exynos 4412
GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD C24Z16 Onscreen | 28 fps | 15 fps |
GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD C24Z16 Offscreen | 20 fps | 15 fps |
NenaMark 1 | 60.0 fps | 60.0 fps |
NenaMark 2 | 58.7 fps | 58.8 fps |
An3DBench XL | 35504 | 34334 |
While both performances are acceptable, LG Optimus did however fare pretty well when it came to several graphic intensive tests.
Browser Benchmark :-
Snapdragon S4 Pro | Samsung Exynos 4412
SunSpider for JavaScript (lower is better) | 1606.0 ms | 2036.8 ms |
Rightware Browsermark (higher is better) | 89018 | 168448 |
Google V8 Benchmark Suite (higher is better) | 1129 | 1744 |
Vellamo Mobile Benchmark HTML5 (higher is better) | 1535 | 1417 |
While the Galaxy S3 did fare well against all tests, it certainly is no match to Qualcomm’s S4 processor that is almost 2-3 times better than Exynos 4412. However, Browsermark result shows that when it comes to software optimization, Galaxy S3 has indeed the upper hand.
Which smartpone you buy however depends on numerous aspects. If you’re looking for processor intensive solution then Qualcomm’s S4 will get it right for you. However if you looking for a complete experience (feature wise), then Galaxy S3 does exceptionally as well.
